Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Midnight running back to you
[Verse 1]
Met you in a parking lot
You laughed and said, “When’s your momma coming back?
My heart just skipped a beat
Said I have to be home by midnight
Now it’s 3 a.m. again thinking about us playing those
Old cassettes in your truck
My heart aches when I’m not with you
Your voice on my answering machine
Sounds closer than you are
[Chorus]
I’m midnight running back to you
Headlights blur
But I see you so clear
Every mile is saying “don’t let go”
I keep chasing that first-year fever
If this road can rewind time
I’ll drive straight into the past we knew
Midnight running
Running back to you (oh)
Midnight running back to you
Midnight running
Running back to you (oh)
Midnight running back to you
[Verse 2]
Polaroid on your dashboard
Lipstick print on your sleeve
We danced in my fathers kitchen
Like we’d never have to leave
You said “promise me one thing
If you hurt
You call my name”
Now the dial tone’s the only reply
But I swear it sounds the same
[Chorus]
I’m midnight running back to you
Headlights blur
But I see you so clear
Every mile is saying “don’t let go”
I keep chasing that first-year fever
If this road can rewind time
I’ll drive straight into the past we knew
Midnight running
Running back to you (hey)
Midnight running back to you
[Bridge]
Red light
Holding my breath at the red light
Wonder if you’re up at your bedside
Staring at the ceiling too
Green light
Every signal feels like a green light
Every song that plays is a reprise
Of the way I fell for you
[Chorus]
I’m midnight running back to you
Headlights blur
But I see you so clear
Every mile is saying “don’t let go”
I keep chasing that first-year fever
If this road can rewind time
I’ll drive straight into the past we knew
Midnight running
Running back to you (oh yeah)
Midnight running back to you
